Help My Bird Escaped!
Accidents will happen. It is important to take a proactive approach to an escape situation. Many birds are recovered within days, weeks, or sometimes, even months after they escape. Don't loose hope!
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. This saying holds true with keeping your bird safe in your house. Just because you have clipped your bird's wings, does not mean that it cannot fly! Many birds are lost each year because people believe this.
Clipping, if you choose to do so, will hinder a bird, making it more difficult to fly, but when an animal is frightened, adrenaline surges through it's body and in a bird's case, enables flight.
Small birds, like budgies and cockatiels, only need a small breeze to fly when clipped. Don't take the chance by taking them outside when not securely harnessed or in a travel cage.
